Born in Braunschweig on September 10, 1924; 1934 first musical classes as a choirboy; privat education for accordion in Hannover; 1939 starting musical studies with the subjects clarinet, piano, violin, music theory and orchestra at the conservatory of Hannover. During the semester holidays he had engagements with a small ensemble in coffeehouses. 1942: Military draft; first clarinetist in the military band; same time studying at the conservatory; 1945 – 1946 engagement in the english occupation army in Hannover; Matinee performances with the following artist: Laie Andersen, Gitta Lind, Rudolf Schock, Heinz Erhard and others; record deal with Grammophon in Hannover; 1946 – 1948 live performances for the NWDR in Hamburg; 1947 – 1950 “Heinz Both und seine Solisten” performances in the “Troccadero” (Westerland), “Haus Vaterland” in Hamburg and other places; 1950 – 1955 solo recordings, music for radio dramas and recordings with the accordion orchestra for the NWDR. 1955 – 1960 seminar in Trossingen under the leadership of Prof. Hugo Hermann, Hans Rauch, Fritz Dobler, Dr. Armin Fett und Hermann Schittenhelm; graduation as certified music teacher; 1955 foundation of “Hohner Harmonikaschule Heinz Both” in Hannover; commissions from various publishing companies such as Hohner-, Preißler-, Apollo-, Melodie-, Weltmusik- und Schott – Verlag; 1963 foundation of “Jugendband Hannover”; Freelancer for “Landesbühne Hannover", “Staatstheater Hannover" and “Staatstheater Braunschweig"; Jury member for “Jugend musiziert” in the subjects accordion, clarinet and saxophon; 1964 receiving the “Hugo Hermann Award”; 1965 – 1970 TV performances, records and concerts with the Jugendband Hannover; 1970 foundation of the Big Band ’70; TV performances with the accordion “Schöne Bescherung” and “Ich bin Bruce Low”; 1985 receiving the “Hermann Schittenhelm Award”; 1986 receiving the “Rudolf Würthner Award”; 1989 receiving the “DHV-trophy”; 1998 / 1999 TV-performance in the talkshow of Ulrich Tukur; TV-interviews for the documentation „lt don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that Swing"; 2000 receiving the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hannover.
